Meeting & Event Schedule

We meet the second and fourth Monday evenings of the month, 7:00 PM, at St Helen’s Anglican Church hall located at 10787 128 Street, Surrey. Map.

Meetings begin at 7:00pm with a few minutes allotted for club business or photo tips/questions from club members. For the next hour presenters take the floor. Presenters can be invited guest speakers or club members doing “portfolio presentations”, this is followed by a 20 minute Coffee break. From the end of the coffee break till around 9:00 - 9:30pm we do either critique or evaluation of members images.

All members are encouraged to submit up to three images for each meeting.

On “Evaluation Nights” three judges score each image on a “1-10” basis. This is not a competition, scoring is simply a way of gauging improvement. Scores are cumulative and the winner is announced at our Christmas meeting. The overall winner will be selected on a “most improved” basis. The prize is to be determined.

On “Critique Nights” each image will be reviewed and feedback will be given in a positive manner to facilitate the growth and development of the individual photographer.

Level 1 -This is the novice or introductory level. Images will be judged on the basis of being in focus, and having appropriate exposure. Basic composition (for example rule of threes, diagonals etc) will be assessed as well.

Level 2 -This level is for photographers whose work is of a reasonably consistent high standard. In addition to the basics noted in level 1, demonstration of the understanding of depth of field, and the appropriate use of light will be judged. A higher standard of composition will be expected. For example the avoidance of unnecessary elements in an image, the avoidance of “border creep” will be among the criteria assessed.

Level 3 -This level is for more experienced photographers. Not only technical mastery of the medium should be apparent, but also evidence of an understanding of the “wow” factor (e.g. use of colour, mastery of lighting, contrast, subject selection, superior composition etc).

When Submitting images please put your level at the end of the file name.
